its search process for a Planning & Economic Development Director:
The City of Corning is located
on I-86 in the Finger Lakes Region of Central New York. Home to the world headquarters of Corning
Incorporated, a FORTUNE 500 company, the City has a population of 10,842. With a sizable commercial and tourism base, Corning boasts
amenities that are usually found in much larger communities, such as a world
class glass museum, a well respected arts center, a regional hospital, and a
school district offering the International Baccalaureate diploma program.
The City of Corning is seeking a
Planning & Economic Development Director to fill a vacancy due to the
retirement of its current director from municipal government. The position is responsible for all aspects
of planning and economic activities including: overseeing the Code Enforcement
Office; acting as the staff liaison to the Planning & Zoning Commission,
Zoning Board of Appeals, the Economic Loan Board and other City organizations;
grant writing & administration; participating in redevelopment activities,
including significant downtown involvement; and housing rehabilitation. The Director of Planning & Economic
Development reports to the City Manager, who is the City’s Chief Executive
Officer.
Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree in Public Administration,
Planning, Business Administration, Economics or other related filed, and have
three (3) years of experience in economic development, municipal planning,
regional planning or related work, two (2) years of which must have been in a
responsible supervisory or administrative capacity. An equivalent combination of training and
experience may be accepted.
Starting salary will be dependent upon experience and qualifications.
