NYAOT Pushes for Modern Solution to Outdated Mandate

Time to Fully Embrace Technology that Can Facilitate Transparency, Members Agree

At a recent Clinton County Regional Roundtable, a group of supervisors discussed an emerging dichotomy: demands for increased transparency while relying on outdated methods of announcing public hearings, meetings and the like. 

The Local Government Modernization and Transparency Act’ would allow municipalities to post legal notices on their official web site instead of publishing them in newspapers.   

Last year, the New York Association of Towns estimated that the mandate for towns to print public notices costs New York towns between $6 million and $8 million a year.
